GMAPS CONSORTIUM AWARDED CONTRACT TO REHABILITATE AND OPERATE JETTIES AT MONGLA PORT BANGLADESH

 

Singapore, 21 Aug 2016 : The Bangladesh Mongla Seaport Authority (MPA) has awarded a contract to the GMAPS-PowerPac Consortium to rehabilitate and operate two jetties at Mongla Port under a Public Private Partnership Agreement. The GMAPS-PowerPac Consortium comprises Global Maritime and Port Services Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based port management and engineering design consultancy firm, and Bangladesh-based PowerPac Ports Limited.

Chairman of Mongla Sea Port Authority (MPA) Rear Admiral Riazuddin Ahmed signed the Concession Agreement with Managing Director of PowerPac Ports Ltd Ron Haque Sikder representing the Consortium at a contract signing ceremony on 21 August 2016 at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka. The event was witnessed by Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan.

Under the Agreement, the Consortium will invest some US$52.75 million to rehabilitate and construct two jetties which will supplement the existing 5 operational jetties at Mongla Port. The Consortium will manage and operate the 2 jetties for 30 years, including the 2 years needed for their construction, and share profits with MPA

The Shipping Minister in his address mentioned that once the 2 new jetties come into operation they would help enhance the Mongla Port's service facilities as well as boost its income. The port's container handling volume is expected to more than double and to go up to 100,000 TEUs per year from the current 41,953 TEUs handled in FY2015-16. The Minister reiterated that the project would not only benefit Bangladesh but also play a vital role in the region's trade with neighbouring nations like India.

Singapore 22 Aug 2016 : GMAPS successfully completed the inaugural run of the "Knowing Your Port" course on 18 Aug 2016. More than 90 officers from the public sector attended the course. The course, focusing on sharing first-hand information about the port, received favourable feedback from participants.

 

GMAPS CONDUCTED THE PORT MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS COURSE

Singapore, 8 Aug 2016 : GMAPS has been appointed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore to conduct a 5-day course on Port Management and Opeartions for the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). The course, designed by GMAPS, has been successfully concluded on 5 Aug 2016. Some 15 participants from 13 countries including top officials like Deputy Director General, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Directors, Chief Engineer etc from the various port authorities attended the course. The course covered topics from global economic outlook to success factors of the Singapore Port , as well as the future challenges to ports.

The course partcipants actively participated through out the 5-day programmes and gave excellent ratings for the course.

BUSINESS VISIT TO IRAN

 

Singapore, 1 March 2016 :  Capt James Fong, CEO GMAPS, was in Iran in end February and early March. He was part of the Singapore Business Federation delegation that visited Iran. The delegation was led by Mr S Iswaran, Second Minister, Trade and Industry.

Capt Fong met representatives of the Ports and Maritime Organisation of Iran and key port and maritime companies such as Gulf Agency Corporation and Sina Marine and Ports Services. Several business opportunities were discussed and there will be followup actions by potential Iranian business partners.

COLLABORATION WITH TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES

 

Singapore, 26 January 2016 :  As part of its strategy to leverage on its expertise in the port and maritime domain, GMAPS is seeking to partner technology companies to develop technologies and technology systems for this domain. Accordingly, it recently signed agreements with a number of leading technology companies to facilitate collaboration.

Singapore, 14 January 2016 : GMAPS hosted a visit by a delegation from the Mauritius Port Authority (MPA) on 14 January 2016. It was led by its Chairman, Mr Ramalingum Maistry. The delegation included the MPA's Director-General, Mr Shekur Suntah, and its Deputy Director-General, Mr Shakeel Goburdhone. The visit was facilitated by Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.

GMAPS briefed the delegation on its consulting capabilities. This was followed by an exchange of views on how a port could be brought up to a higher level of performance and how GMAPS could facilitate this.

AWARD OF TRANSACTION ADVISORY TENDER FOR IBOM DEEP SEA PORT

 

Singapore,9 December 2015 :  GMAPS was awarded a multi-million dollar transaction advisory tender by Akwa Ibom State for the development of Ibom Deep Sea Port (IDSP). The development of this deep sea port in eastern Nigeria is part of a far-sighted strategy by the Nigerian authorities to transform the economy of this region. The contract was signed in Uyo between GMAPS and Akwa Ibom State Government on 9th December 2015.

SIGNING OF MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT WITH SIMPLUS

 

Singapore, 24 November 2015 :  GMAPS signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with SimPlus on 24 November 2015 to collaborate on projects both locally and Internationally. The MOA was signed by GMAPS Executive Director, Mr Lalchand Sheri, and SimPlus's Managing Director, Ms Stuti Nautiyal. As SimPlus specialises in quality simulation, this MOA extends the range of cutting edge technological capabilities available to GMAPS as it seeks to deliver quality solutions to its clients

VISIT BY SINGAPORE DELEGATION TO SHARJAH ELECTRICITY AND WATER AUTHORITY (SEWA)

 

Singapore, 22 October 2015 :  GMAPS led a delegation to visit the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) from 18 to 22 October 2015 to discuss collaboration opportunities. The delegation comprised Public Utilities Board, International Enterprises Singapore, Meinhardt, Visenti, ST Electronics, Energy Market Company, Diamond Energy and Grahamtek Nuwater Singapore. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Dr Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of SEWA, and Mr Ng Han Tong of PUB. The signing was witnessed by Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed (Special Envoy to the Middle East and former Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in his capacity as Chairman of Diamond Energy.

The delegation had the honour of being received by Dr Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of SEWA. Dr Al Leem shared his impressive vision for SEWA. There were several events held to provide opportunities for interaction between SEWA staff and the delegation as well as visits to SEWA facilities. Going forward, to realise Dr Al Leem's vision, SEWA and the Singapore companies in the delegation will explore opportunities for collaborative projects.

SHARJAH ELECTRICITY
